WORK CONTENT AND DESCRIPTION

You'll be supporting the locals in two main ways as follows:

THE WOMEN'S SHELTER:
This project cares for women and young girls. It contains 10 children and 20 women, with average ages running from 4 to 40 years old.

  • First and foremost, you will participate in building up a hut, the Women’s Shelter. This will, of course, depend on when your programme takes place. You could do other construction/renovation/expansion work, depending on what's needed when you're there.
  • You'll also teach the girls and women some basic English in fun and interesting ways.
  • Another important aspect is playing games with them, to provide both physical exercise and relaxation as some of them have become demoralized and really relish spending time engaged in activities. The cultural exchange and interaction provides girls / women with much needed confidence and exposure.

THE POOR VILLAGES OUTREACH PROGRAMME:
Here you'll focus on teaching underprivileged children from poor villages around Center, whose parents cannot afford to send them to school. TYou'll interact with the children using games and activities to teach them and help them understand the importance of academics in developing other skills.

SAMPLE SCHEDULE:

Monday to Friday:

In the morning after breakfast, you will depart to the project location where the women’s shelter is established. At the Shelter, you will:

  • Teach English to Women and young children.
  • Play games with them.
  • Interact with them and spend time with them.
  • Help the staff at the Center when required.
  • Help with any construction or renovation work that may go towards improving or exanding the Women's Shelter - this will very much depend on what's required at the time you're there.

Then in the afternoon, you will return to the Center to have lunch. After lunch, you will then be leaving to the poor village outreach project. During this time, you will:

  • Teach the children English.
  • Help them with homework.
  • Play with them.
  • Help to build tables and seats.

This schedule can be changed and/or amended depending on weather conditions, local conditions and unforeseen circumstances.

We provide you with a Teaching Guide and suggestions on inexpensive resources to take with you. Children are always fascinated with volunteers and want to learn as much as possible about you. They love to hear stories about you, your family and where you are from so it is ideal to take pictures, maps, magazine articles and photos of your family and friends with you. You can also use these as excellent resources for a lesson to promote discussion and interest.
