Because they are not commercially exploited, Brunei’s coral reefs remain in relatively good condition. Despite oil drilling and coastal development, they are among the least threatened in the region. However, illegal fishing is increasing. According to the RRSEA model, only about twenty one percent of Brunei’s coral reefs are at risk from human activities, particularly from sedimentation as a result of upland activities.
