Content:
The day is designed to prepare you as well as possible for your teaching
placement; not least, it will dispel some of your nervousness and give you
confidence for when you get there!
Your teacher is Paul White, a
qualified teacher and ecologist who has himself taken part in four Travellers
projects and has visited first-hand a few more (read his
Biography).
We hold courses in both
London and
Brighton. Follow
the links to two
very good websites on London & Brighton that has lots of information on
restaurants, bars and pubs, hotels, clubs and cinemas... and lots more!
We will certificate the completion of the
Training.
Elements of the day will include:
- Some essential teaching strategies.
- Links from one lesson to the next,
- Strengthening learning outcomes,
- Motivating pupils in your classes,
- Effective delivery,
- Group involvement and control,
- Class management and discipline,
- Reviews, and
- How to plan an effective scheme of work.
We will also include some essential
practical advice regarding teaching in particular countries, as the classes,
environments and teaching requirements do vary from country to country. Overall, we aim to remove some common
apprehensions concerning teaching in general. Teaching can be fun! You'll also
receive our detailed Teaching
Suggestions Guide/Manual, which can be very effectively used on your
placement. It must be emphasised that many hundreds of
volunteers have very successfully completed their placements without the
benefit of formal training and have used the Teaching Suggestions Guide
very effectively. However, if you can participate in this course, it will
add substantially to your preparation for your placement.
The course will also give you an opportunity
to meet other volunteers who may be doing their placement at the same time and
in the same place as you are. |

“Hi Paul, [Paul runs Travellers Teaching and
TEFL courses] What a lovely surprise to hear from you, of course I remember you
and often think of that Saturday when I was so apprehensive about the venture I
had somehow stumbled into!! You'll never know how worried I was about my ability
to cope…especially as everyone else seemed so capable. However, it has turned
out to be the best thing I ever did and I have to tell you that you helped me so
much. You encouraged me and gave me a real boost. I absolutely love it here, I
am living the African life and I have so many new friends. I am so excited about
the new involvement and very thrilled that I was even considered. I never could
have imagined the change in my life in the last 8 months, I'm a very different
person from the one you saw at the Thistle Hotel. I feel younger (hope I look
it!) have put a little weight on and am so very happy. Thank you to everyone at
Travellers Worldwide, special thanks to you Paul.”
