Background to Travellers
We have over 13 years' experience in sending volunteers to help communities (both human and animal) overseas. We've grown enormously and are still growing ... but we can only do this with the help of our experienced and very enthusiastic team, both here in the UK and overseas in our destination countries.

Travellers staff in the UK are very experienced travellers themselves - most of them are ex Travellers Volunteers and they understand what volunteers are looking for and hoping to gain on each project. Their advice and expertise is invaluable in arranging and tailoring each placement to a volunteers requirements. Are you interested in working in the field of International Development, arranging for others to undertaken valuable voluntary work overseas? Do you have the qualities to join us?

CURRENT VACANCIES - WASGAMUWA, SRI LANKA – TEACHER / VOLUNTEER LIAISON
Our partner organization in Sri Lanka is looking for someone to live and work on the ground in Wasgamuwa National Park, Sri Lanka. This person will be responsible for teaching English in the village schools and mentoring Travellers volunteers on their projects.

The successful applicant will:

• Be able to commit to at least a 6 month contract, preferably longer
• Be a qualified teacher or have 5+ years teaching experience
• Have a love of rural life (this is an absolute must!)
• Be highly self motivated

Food and accommodation will be provided on site. All food and accommodation is of a basic, local standard.

ADMINISTRATOR - based at Head Office in Sussex

  • You'll be based in our Head Office in Sussex where you'll give invaluable administration support to our Project Team.
  • You'll work in a friendly, supportive environment that's a little different to the norm.
  • You need to be self-motivated, with an excellent level of computer literacy.
  • You should enjoy working as part of a team, yet able to work on your own initiative as well.
  • Other requirements include the ability to communicate well with people of all ages and be fluent in both written and spoken English.
  • You should also have a good sense of humour and - very importantly - you must love dogs.
  • If you are an ex-Travellers volunteer, that would be an advantage, but it's not a must.
TRAINEE PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR - based at Head Office in Sussex
This is an exciting and challenging position where you'll receive training to become a Travellers Project Co-ordinator. As a Project Co-ordinator you'll have responsibility for looking after, plus developing and expanding, your own destination country/countries and all the projects in that country.

This post is open to ex-Travellers volunteers only. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Administration of a volunteer's project through all its stages - from initial enquiry through to debriefing at the completion of the volunteer's placement.

  • You will also visit your destination country and projects on a regular basis

  • You will help to develop and maintain the quality of each project

  • You'll liaise with our overseas managers and staff

  • You'll constantly monitor the quality of Travellers' provision of services to our volunteers and strive to maintain and improve our projects

  • Much of our work is computer based, including inputting data into the organisation database, so you need to have excellent computer skills

You will need to be very enthusiastic, with plenty of travelling experience and a highly developed sense of responsibility.
How to Apply

OVERSEAS ADMINISTRATION OFFICER - based in one of our destination countries

You will work as an Administration Officer in one of our overseas destinations, assisting with some or all of the following:

  • Arranging all aspects of a volunteer’s placement, taking them through each stage from the time that they initially express an interest in a project to organising all travel arrangements, visas, insurance etc for various countries. This includes all aspects of arranging the placement: entering information onto a database and maintaining accurate computer records, sending out documentation, regular correspondence with volunteers by email and phone, answering volunteers questions and ensuring they are prepared for their programme.

  • You will help to develop and maintain the quality of each project in the destination that you are in.

  • You will assist in maintaining accurate project descriptions on the website and within other documentation.

  • You'll liaise with our overseas managers and staff as well as our UK office, who will be overseeing all of your work.

  • You'll constantly monitor the quality of Travellers' provision of services to our volunteers and strive to maintain and improve our projects.

This position is only open to ex-Travellers volunteers. We currently have positions available in INDIA and SOUTH AFRICA.

Contract and Salary

  • We offer minimum six-month in-country contracts, with the possibility of continued and permanent employment with Travellers as part of the team. Continued employment possibilities are either remaining in the same role in the country that you start in, or transferring to another country, or joining our team in our Head Office in the UK. These options will be subject to the quality of your work in your first position overseas.
  • There will be a probationary period of three months.
  • Your salary will be a basic living allowance, based on the economy of the country that you're working in.
  • Your international flights, travel and health insurance and board and lodging are paid by Travellers
  • You will be expected to 'work from home' in the country that you are placed in.
  • An offer of employment is dependent upon receipt of satisfactory references, a medical assessment (if necessary) and personal interview.

How to Apply

VOLUNTEER LIAISON OFFICER - based in one of our destination countries

  • You'll work alongside our Local Country Manager and staff in one of our destination countries.
  • You'll be responsible for welcoming our volunteers and making them comfortable and secure in their new environment.
  • You'll constantly monitor the quality of accommodation and projects, as well as assisting in the set-up of new projects.
  • You'll prepare regular Reports for the UK Head Office and maintain communication between the overseas office and the UK head office.
  • You'll work flexible hours and your weekends may not necessarily fall on weekends! This is a hectic and demanding job that requires a great deal of adaptability, self-discipline and initiative.
  • This position is only open to ex-Travellers volunteers.

  • We offer six-month in-country contracts, with the possibility of continued and permanent employment with Travellers as part of the team. Continued employment possibilities are either remaining in the same role in the country that you start in, or transferring to another country, or joining our team in our Head Office in the UK.
