ISIC STUDENT CARDS
The benefits for Travellers volunteers and how to apply for one to use on your voluntary placement abroad

For our volunteers that are travelling abroad, it may be handy for them to Purchase either a ISIC, IYTC, ITIC. These cards enable our volunteers receive many benefits while abroad and can be extremely useful and save you some money.

The ISIC Association is an international, not-for-profit membership association of the International Student Travel Confederation (ISTC). Member organisations are the world's leaders in developing specialised student and youth travel products and services. The ISIC Association and UNESCO maintain a relationship that reflects the common belief in travel as a means to promote international understanding. UNESCO endorses the ISIC and the UNESCO logo is included on the card.

ISIC is the only internationally recognized proof of full-time student status and provides cardholders access to worldwide benefits and services.

For those who are no longer a student but under 26, or who are full-time teachers or professors, ISIC provides the International Youth Travel Card (IYTC) and the International Teacher Identity Card (ITIC). Both cards offer similar benefits, services and savings as the ISIC.

If you are a full-time student or teacher or aged under 26 years old, you are eligible for an international identity card. Your card will give you internationally recognised proof of identity in over 100 countries worldwide and allows you to make great savings on travel, accommodation, entertainment, eating out, sightseeing, foreign currency exchange, telecommunications, shopping and more, both at home and abroad!

Full-time Students:
If you are enrolled in full-time studies at a recognised institution and are at least 12 years old, you are eligible for the International Student Identity Card (ISIC). You can be in secondary school or in post-secondary studies and there is no upper-age limit for the ISIC. Full-time students of all ages can benefit from their special status. Bear in mind, however, that some businesses and airlines may have their own rules that restrict discounts to a certain age group.

To apply for the ISIC, you need to present proof that you are currently studying full-time at a recognised institution. This could either be your college or university student ID or a signed letter from your school on official stationary. From then on, wherever you are in the world, all you will need to prove that you are a student is your ISIC!

You can apply for your ISIC in person at your nearest Student and Youth Travel Office or through the mail at one of the 5,000 issuing offices around the world.

Under 26 Years Old:
If you are not a full-time student but are aged under 26 years old (and over 12 years old), you are eligible for the International Youth Travel Card (IYTC).

Established in 1975, UNESCO endorses the IYTC as the ultimate travel card for anyone under 26 years old. Each year more than 400,000 young travellers around the world use an IYTC to save money.

To apply for the IYTC, all you need is proof of your age, such as a photocopy of your birth certificate, passport or validated picture ID card and a passport sized photograph. You can apply for your IYTC in person at your nearest Student and Youth Travel Office or through the mail at one of the 5000 issuing offices around the world.

Full-time Teacher or Professor:
If you are a full-time teacher or professor and would like to use your skills abroad or simply take some time out to explore the world, the International Teacher Identity Card (ITIC) is for you.

The ITIC was introduced in 1984 to provide travelling teachers and professors with a single uniform document that is accepted around the world as proof of teacher status, and is now the most widely accepted form of teacher identification.

To apply for the ITIC, you need proof that you are a bona fide full-time teacher, professor or instructor at a recognised educational establishment. You must be employed for a minimum of 18 hours per week for a minimum of one academic year. You can apply for your ITIC in person at your nearest Student and Youth Travel Office or through the mail at one of the 5000 issuing offices around the world.
