cultural exchangeA cultural exchange is an excellent way to expand your knowledge of a different culture. If you are interested in music, art or drama a cultural exchange in Cuba will be ideal for you. Cuba is a country trapped in time with a way of life that many find hard to understand but one thing is certain, the Cuban way of life is about living. Cuba is the biggest of the Caribbeans islands but the least commercial, the world's last bastion for the idealistic way of communism.Gangesters once ran Cuba, there were casinos, clubs and extravagant houses everywhere and the air of past glory is on every street. However because Cuba/Castro has resisted input from America and other world powers it has remaind much the same way as when the country was born to development. So you will see beautiful Spanish architechture in it's original form especially in the capital of Havana. Nothing has been imported since the fifty's so there are only classic American cars on the road from this period, you feel that you have stepped back in time whilst on your cultural exchange. Havana has a swinging nightlife, with cinemas, historic theatres, cabarets and nightclubs and music venues that will exhaust even the most hardened campaigner. There's less traffic and less commercialization than choke your average Latin American city. But from the rough brilliance of Old Havana to residential areas ranging from shabby to demanding demolition, the exuberant friendliness of Havana's inhabitants is what shines through. This cultural exchange will really open your eyes Cuba generally has suffered greatly from the United States economic blockade and many people throughout the country still live in pre revolution shantytowns. However, this is changing as new construction is commencing right now. Are you a dancer This is an unusual opportunity to learn or improve your Tango skills while living in the culture that invented it. You'll live in Buenos Aires and enjoy it's vibrant night life while attending a structured course during a couple of days a week at the University of Buenos Aires. You'll have plenty of time to sightsee and explore the different elements of this stunning country. During this cultural exchange programme you will have private tango lessons which will enable you to progress at your own pace. The elusive spirit of Argentina is present everywhere in Buenos Aires. The national dance, the Tango, is perhaps the best expression of that spirit practiced in dance halls parks, open plazas and ballrooms. This cultural exchange programme will teach you this dance of intimate separation and common rhythm, combining both an elegant reserve and an exuberant passion. |
