DURATIONS: The durations given below are recommended durations. However, we can arrange internships from 4 weeks upwards in these companies or in similar companies. So if you can't stay for the recommended duration given below, please contact us and we'll arrange a shorter-term internship for you.

This Lawyers & Consultants firm's core business is adding value to your knowledge, intellectual property, technology and innovation. Accordingly, they audit, manage, identify, develop, register, protect, value, contract and commercialize intellectual assets. This is complemented by their expertise in business structuring, business sale and purchase transactions, employment law, trade practices, general commercial law and dispute resolution.

Position Description:

  • In project work: responsibility for proper and efficient conduct of assigned tasks for client projects following the practice’s Policy Manual, process guides and systems. Typical work will include drafting various types of IP and commercial contracts and progressing trade mark applications. Unusually for a small firm, this practice maintains a proprietary and extremely large precedent database with over 2,000 templates (mostly types of contracts. The client base comprises mostly Sydney-based start-ups and small to medium-sized businesses. A considerable variety of industries are served; many of the firm’s clients have interests in information technology or intellectual property (especially consumer brands).

  • In research work, conduct research in specific areas of law, technology and business to develop know-how for client matters and to improve the firm’s documentation. These may include research into contract law, intellectual property law and transactions, patents, management principles, intellectual property valuation and commercialization, business structuring (e.g. formation of companies and collaborations) and general business law.

  • In marketing work, assist in preparation of content to updated their website and provide content for the firm's monthly Cue email broadcasts to clients and overseas IP attorneys.
