Australia has also produced many great surf champions, for example, Mark
Occhilupo and Layne Beachley.

"I had a brilliant weekend at Lancelin
surf camp!! This opportunity is ideal for anyone interested in learning to
surf or perfecting their existing skills. The waves are great for beginners
and intermediate students as they break slowly and don't crumble. All of the
instructors were really friendly and keen to get you as hooked on surfing as
they are! They'll give you individual tuition until you can catch waves on
your own and when you do they'll be there to record it on camera. I was
aching like crazy the following day, but we got back in the water and did it
all again!! I would definitely recommend this trip to others, it was so much
fun and deserted Lancelin is a great escape from the city."

A
Quick History of Surfing in Australia:
In the
beginning of the 1900's, it was prohibited for anyone to swim in the sea
between 6:00 in the morning and 8:00 in the evening. Whoever breached the
law was imprisoned and not seen well by the community. But as time passed,
the law also lost its effect and 1901 was the year it officially became
legal for people to swim at Australian Beaches outside of those hours.
By 1950 the
first imported wood surfboards had arrived in Australia. They were copied
and adapted for Australian style and materials. Australian surfboards became
lighter than their American and Hawaii counterparts, smaller in size and
weight. By the 60's the Surf explosion had started and by the 70's surfing
was attracting multitudes to the beach, provoking a revolution and a new
direction in the sport; becoming professional and profitable.
