SPORTS PROJECTS

We have different types of Sports Projects in different locations, each with their own unique experience. Please select one from the list below that appeals to you the most. You can combine two or more different projects to gain a broad Kenya experience. You don't need any qualifications to coach sports, just a knowledge of the game.

• TOTAL SPORTS - COACHING VARIOUS DIFFERENT TYPES OF SPORTS IN DIANI BEACH, 40 km SOUTH OF MOMBASA
  Football, rugby, volleyball, cricket.
  Travellers works with schools to give the local community children access to coaching in a variety of Sports. You can coach a single sport or a variety of different sports, the choice is yours. You'll get a broad and diversified experience while on this placement. You'll also assist in running a Travellers Sports Tournament during your placement.

• COACHING FOOTBALL IN MOMBASA
  Mombasa is a coastal harbour city and a vibrant and exciting place to do a project. The schools you'll work with are mainly for the poorer children in the local community. You'll help the children get a level of coaching that has been denied them in the past - this is a worthwhile and satisfying project. You'll also assist in running a Travellers Football Tournament during your placement.

  Swimming is not normally a sport you would associate with Kenya and very few children in Kenya ever get the opportunity to learn how to swim properly. This is another worthwhile and satisfying project.

  Volleyball is a fairly popular sport in Kenya but very few children ever get the opportunity to learn how to play it properly. You'll also assist in running a Travellers Volleyball Tournament during your placement.

FREE COACHING MANUALS AND SUBSCRIPTION TO COACHING WEBSITE
As a volunteer sports coach with Travellers we provide you with a coaching manual for your sport which you can use on your placement. We have also arranged for you to get a year’s free subscription to a Coaching website: www.grassrootscoaching.com. With this membership (which normally comes with a price tag of £39.99), you automatically become a member of the International Coaches Association (ICA) and join a community of coaches from over 65 countries.

The ICA is rapidly growing into one of the largest coaching organizations in the world. This subscription will allow you access to over 4,000 pages of the best interactive, online soccer and football coaching information.

Although they deal mainly with soccer/football, the coaching principles are the same for all sports and will be helpful for you in teaching any sport. This excellent resource should hopefully be able to give you a few tips that will benefit both you and the children that you’ll be coaching, and enable you to gain the maximum enjoyment from your placement.
