Baby monkey doing well...
Nonie - a four-month-old monkey who was beaten up by a human a week ago - is recovering well at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in Yellowwood Park, South Africa…

She was beaten to within an inch of her life with an iron rod at Mariannhill.

Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre's Judy Gounaris says animal abuse is a growing problem. Most of the animals that are brought in to them have been abused by people.

For now though, Nonie’s making new friends at the Centre and she’s stunning the staff with her miraculous recovery.

“The vets are absolutely amazed at the recovery that she has made considering the injuries that she had - because they really did expect her to lose her sight.

“She’s doing well now - she’s got great trust in the people at the Rehabilitation Centre who are looking after her and she’s now starting to sit with the other monkeys and she can see again, fortunately.

We have high hopes for her being absolutely fine and going back to the wild.”
