SPECIAL: Paragliding 7-Day Course
This is a 7 day theory and practical paragliding course
set near the beautiful Drakensburg mountains. You will be able to gain a licence at the end of the course which
will allow you to do solo paragliding around the world.
WHO CAN DO THIS COURSE?
-
This
paragliding course is open to all Travellers volunteers and can be
completed before, during or after your placement.

Non-Travellers volunteers are also welcome to participate in this
course.
PRICES:
The paragliding course
is set in the KwaZulu Natal province of South Africa in the foothills of
the southern Drakensburg mountain range.
Soar above the clouds in the beautiful province
of KZN in the southern foothills of the Drakensburg mountains where the views are breathtaking.
The paragliding course will teach you all the skills necessary to gain your
own paragliding qualification which is internationally recognised.
The course will run for 7 days but it may be
extended to 10 days if the weather is bad. As part of the course you will
have at least 35 flights within the 7 - 10 day period. You will be likely to do
5 flights per day (weather permitting). You will experience ridge soaring and thermal
flying which is unique to the area. As part of the course you will have
instruction on:
This course is available all year round,
although August and September are not ideal because of occasional unfavourable
wind conditions. All equipment will be provided
as part of the course and the instructors are amongst the top in South
Africa who have competed for South Africa in paragliding. At the end of the
course you'll have to complete a written exam and if you are successful
you'll receive a SAHPA licence which will enable you to paraglide around
the world
(apart from Germany), once you have completed a brief refresher course in
whichever country you happen to be in.

ACCOMMODATION:
During the duration of the
course you will be staying in a log cabin in a picturesque setting with
the mountain on one side and the valley on the other. The cabin has a communal kitchen
where you can cook your evening meals as well as a lounge area, TV room
and outside seating area.
You'll share a room with other
paragliders. 20 metres from the house is a shower and toilet
block. You will be able to do your laundry on site for R25 per load
(about £1.70 or $3.50).
You will be given a budget for food and you'll be
able to buy supplies from the local supermarket.

- Hat and sun cream
- Tuck-shop money/change
- Outdoor clothes
- Books and any other personal entertainment media
