What experience do you feel you are gaining? What all goes into
running and caring for a lot of animals. What is the best thing about your placement so far? The hands on experience I got with the young baboons. Would you recommend this placement to anyone else? Yes What type of person do you think this placement would suit? A hard worker that loves animals. Was there anything that you weren’t told before your departure that you think future volunteers should know? No Can you describe a typical day? (e.g. Start time, morning duties, lunch hours, afternoon duties, any other duties…. ) Start at 7am clean bird cages, chop food for all animals and deliver food, cut branches and grass for animals, lunch is at 1pm for an hour then repeat feeding over again and your done by 3pm. Any other relevant comments? (This will help us to maintain the standard of our placements or make any improvements which become apparent from your input). Yes, tell people what I have listed above or tell them exactly what they will be entering into. |

While you are here you must go on the Zulu tour to the Valley of 1000 hills, it was an amazing cultural experience and also do the 2-day Safari to Hluhluwe/Umfolozi game parks. Also try and get to Ushaka Marine World and do the ocean walk there, its is cheap and really bizarre. I am feeling really sad to be leaving, I have made some friends for life here and will definitely be coming back soon for another stint at helping out. I am going to miss chopping veg, the 7’o clock starts, and the day old chicks!!!
