CONSERVATION PROJECTS IN SOUTH AFRICA

WORTHWHILE AND REWARDING CONSERVATION PROJECTS IN SOUTH AFRICA, full of adventure and fun, too!  We have many conservation projects of all different types available. They are listed below, so please click on the ones that appeal to you to read detailed descriptions of the projects.

Get the total African experience while learning from and living with conservation experts. You can work with most of the famous Big 5 animals (Lions, Elephants, Buffalo, Rhinos and Leopard). We also have marine projects with sharks and whales, and hands-on projects with most species of animals.

UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL CONSERVATION: Here you'll care for animals in Sanctuaries and Wildlife Parks and Centres:

  • Animal Rehabilitation Centre in KwaZulu-Natal. Help to rehabilitate orphaned, injured, abused or abandoned animals, including Vervet Monkeys and other species of animals and birds.

  • Wildlife Sanctuary and Game Park in Port Elizabeth in the Cape. Hands-on work with injured or abandoned animals of all types.

GAME RESERVE CONSERVATION: Here you'll help to monitor wildlife in the bush on Game Reserves and collect valuable data to help preserve rare and threatened species.

  • Mkhuze Game Reserve: Monitor endangered species in one of South Africa's oldest game reserves, part of a World Heritage Site. It is situated in the heart of the beautiful and cultural KwaZulu Natal. You'll be part of a team working on the endangered species monitoring project monitoring animals such as black and white Rhinos, Elephants, Buffalo, Wild Dogs and Cheaters.

  • Tembe Elephant Park in KwaZulu-Natal. If you want exciting and rewarding conservation work, you’ll love this placement. Your work will be varied and fascinating and a large part of it is devoted to collecting data.

  • Nambiti Game Reserve: Leopards and Big Cats Conservation, plus Large Mammal Research Help stop the persecution of Leopards and Big Cats and give something back! An exciting project tracking Leopards, Big Cats and Large Mammals in KwaZulu-Natal.
  • Endangered Species: This project has now been successfully concluded. You can read more about the results of the project.

MARINE CONSERVATION:

  • Multi-Marine Project - Sharks, Whales, Penguins, Seals, Dolphins... this is an extraordinary project in a beautiful location, two hours from Cape Town.

  • White Shark Project - You'll get lots of training and much of the work is out at sea, possibly cage diving with the sharks, depending on your ability. A deeply fascinating project that gets the adrenalin pumping. You'll learn a lot and have an awesome experience.

  • Dolphins and Whales Research - an excellent research project where you'll observe and learn a lot about dolphins and whales as well as Cape Fur seals.
